76 R90S headlight circuit board

Post by DLC3 »

Does anyone know where I can access a diagram for a 1976 R90S headlight circuit board on the internet? I was checking grounds on my circuit board which all look ok, but I noticed that I have a green-red wire that is not connected. I suspect this is a brake light wire that may have come off a connection blade when I pulled out the headlight and I don't know where to re-connect it. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello DLC3, your circuit board should look like this: Image reconnect the wire to the matching color area on the board.

Thank you, Tim...
My circuit board looks just like that. And I see that there is no area colored for a green-red wire. On my wire diagram, a green-red wire is for a headlight or taillight. Even those this wire is not connected to the circuit board, all lights work properly. I guess it is not supposed to be connected. Oh well...

Which part of the wiring loom does the wire come from?

What is not working?

There are various wiring diagrams out there, but make sure you are not looking at a 74 because it is different from your bike.

Looking at the Haynes diagram, green with red stripe is only on the switch to bulb of the brake light circuit.

It appears there is a junction on the R90s board JUST for connecting the front brake lever switch to the tail light lead. That must be what your odd wire is. Can you tell where it goes?
BTW, that board looks like a /5 terminal board, I think the R90s board has fuses and looks like a /6 board.
Anyhow, the junction ternimals are 3rd from the end opposite the terminals where the RED wires come into the board.
I have a schematic but cannot figure a way to send an picture to you. The "send PM" forum-feature won't let me post a picture.
OR I just can't figure out HOW.

Whoops. I was looking at the 1974 schematic. The 1976 R90s schematic does NOT show a Green-red tracer wire going to the headlight shell. ALL the Green-red-tracer wire connections are done between the 2 brake-light switches and then to the tail-light.
The "hot leads" for the brake switches/tail-light are green with BLACK tracer. Also this line is fused.

Thanks everyone for the help. There is no green-red colored area on my 76 R90S circuit board. I put it all back together without connecting the green red wire... left it hanging. Everything works. My 76 R90S wire diagram says anything green-red connects to the headlight or taillight and both are working find.

Did you find out where it comes from? {the odd wire}
AND, good to know you got a schematic.

OK, a bit later. I'll answer my own question.
The 1976 schematic implies there IS a Green/red tracer lead that does indeed go into the headlight shell. For apparently no reason. [maybe to confound us!!]
It is on the schematic, but it doesn't DO anything.
I LOVE it when this happens.
