Rocker arm side play?

I was adjusting the valves today, when I went to check the right side there was a lot of side play in the rockers. Loosened the clamping blocks, book is a bit vague on how much is required. Is taking up slack for a minimum of play but still moves freely OK? Left intake was tight, right intake was really loose, both exhaust were right on.
