Death Valley Rendezvous 2013

Post by Ridercam »

airheads - you may want to consider doing this ride and camp this year. There is a change in the guard with many of the original airheads from Northern California as well as from other parts in the west. There are not as many airhead bikes as the past but the riding groups are very interesting, knowledgable and cool folks. A more motley crew of kind misfits would be difficult to find. It is over February 14 to the 18th - I highly recommend spending Presidents weekend in riding, camping, moteling and epic wood burns in center of Death Valley. I must say it is this group that has made me keep and continue to love my old bike. they seem to pull me out of the funk out of winter and show me the promise of a great riding spring.

Our group rides begin in Oakland/Berkeley and stop in Hollister for breakfast. we will continue on south for a good spell and cut over on 58 through Bakersfield and overnight in Lake Isabella. the next morning we ride into Death Valley via the back door.

Many other groups leave from all other points - catch or tag on with them - you will knot be sorry.

Here is some posted video of years past.

I always brake in corners and think how I am going to get home if I really mess up. When I get home, I wished that I hadn't used my brakes and should have ridden a bit further.

I had a great ride with a group of good airheads. I have begun to write and post on the adventure rider site.

Looking at your thread now on adv. Sounds like a great ride! It would seem you found a way to shake off your "riding funk" you recently posted about.

You should come to the rally at Ken's in May. I am pretty sure, but not yet 100%, that I will be attending.

I am running the mileage numbers now and making a road wish list! about 1650 on the slab and 1850 on some very fine roads. :)

I am looking at a slide through Golden then I have some riding partners.

Now if I can get Duane and John Falconer to ride with me - I would be set!

That thought occurred to me as well, you would be welcome to stop in whether or not I go to the rally. As would anyone from the forum.

Actually that would give me more incentive to commit to going - it would be more fun to have someone to ride with. My tentative plan is to hang at the rally for a couple days then head down to TX to see my dad who lives in Tyler.

Duane won't be riding, he will be in his Camry, I believe.

I've ridden with John. What's up with John these days that he won't go riding? Just plan a local airheads ride (East Bay starting point) and I think he would join. At least he used to. Now Duane, that's another issue. I couldn't get him to ride with me either.

What about Diane? She's always up for a ride so I hear.

Well I am going to Ken's in May. Are you in Ted? If so you are welcome to come through Golden on your way. We can put you up for the night as well. Then we could ride various back roads in CO and OK to Ken's. I have a preliminary route in mind. Minimal superslabbing. I am leaving Wednesday morning the 15th of May 2013, arriving at Ken's Friday morning. Then Sunday I will head for Tyler TX to see my Dad. So I won't be riding back to CO right after the rally.

Edit: I am planning on camping out along the way to Ken's. Camping locations TBD - it will be a "seat of the pants, dunno where I am camping until I get there" sort of deal. There is a state park in OK that looks intriguing - Black Mesa. Might stay there the first night if things work out.
