Well, I'm now the proud owner of a 1976 ( Build date 10/75 ) Silver Smoke R90S, picked her up for $AU 7,700 allowed
$ 2,000 for Shipping & Importation Costs...just hoping theirs no surprises install for me from Australian Customs!
Any of you Ozzies know of,.. or had experience importing Motorcycles from the United States? Cheers Jeff.

Is that $7700 all up or $9700 Either way, that seems the range here in Oz, though frequently more is asked.

I don't have any experience importing bikes from anywhere. They need to be of certain age don't they Something before 1989 If that's wrong then do you know the year

A mate has a 1935 Triumph 550cc 5/1 side valve that he's been offered a 60/5 for as a direct swap. I've suggested he find out what the Triumph is really worth before he jumps in. He is keen on the /5 though which the guy has for around OZ$6K. It's a NA import from Nevada. I've seen a 75/5 for less than US$3800 from somewhere in Ohio. I reckon he'd be better off with the 750 and still a little ahead on money. If only he knew what the Triumph was worth and could find a buyer.

Steve, thats $AU7,700 just for the bike. Yes, they have an Import Scheme for Vehicles built prior to 1989. I'd be telling your mate to focus on the R75/5s, their the Flagship model & they're much more desirable, & faster. I went through this myself and am glad I chose the R75. To find out what that Trumpy is worth, tell him to get on a British bike or Triumph forum and just ask!

You sure an R90S is only going for that much in OZ,. if you can find one for sale very often. My friend tells me he found one 10 years ago for $AU12,000 and he reckons condition wise it was nothing special. By the way, would 24,000 Miles on a '76 Model be considered a plus?

24K miles? If it's real and the seals an' all else are in good nick, then hell yeah!

R90S's seem to be advertised occasionally for OZ$10K +/- 1-2, sometimes + $5K. Those ones are frequently re-advertised. There was one a while back that had a poor attempt at DO paint that was repeatedly advertised. I haven't seen that one for a while. I have no idea what they sell for.

Here's one for $12K. Add $2-3K for paint.


There's another asking $8.5K that needs some re-assembly.

My mate has been in contact with a UK based Brit bloke re: his bike, without a lot of useful info unfortunately.

When I can sort out my Computer problems, ( won't let me attach files ) I'll upload a pic of my bike. The frame, Engine and Wheels look spotless, also new tyres, new cables & boots etc, also Dyna 111,new battery, and new header pipes, The tank and panels has some bad scratches n a small dent in side of tank, I can live with that for now, eventually would look at fixing. In looking closely,... and I am assured ha ha,. looks like all parts are 100% period correct and original for that year. One more question, is the S running the same Cam as my /5?

I would expect that '35 Trumpet to be worth quite a bit more than an R75/5 in similar condition - LOTS more than an R60/5. Of course, if the Trumpet is trashed. that's different.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling him and he has finally decided to listen. I'd hate him to do the deal then see the Triumph advertised in the guys shop for a shedful of cash. I'm going to see it sometime soon, but I'm about to do a week of night shift. When that happens the world stops and I just concentrate on survival

The R90/s uses the same cam as all airheads except the 600.

There are a much wider variety of cams now being made for our airheads, take a look at the Motoren Irael website for some ideas. I'm currently fitting a 320 small seal cam to my R90 and it will be interesting to see what the results are.
