You shouldn't worry about how thin oil is when it's cold because that's a good thing - less transmission drag. And it's what you would expect anyway from the 75W bit. The comparison with 90 grade or 80W90 should be made when it's hot. You can expect it to still be a slightly lower viscosity but not by much.
The viscosity at 40 C and 100 C can usually be found on the manufacturers web site. How hot does the oil run in the final drive. I don't know but probably nearer 40 than 100 in the UK. In Aus ? I guess you could be starting from cold not that far below 40.
Leaky rear end...
Re: Leaky rear end...
I have been using full synth Mobil trans oil for years, no problems with leaks whatsoever. I bought a bunch when Peter Stevens cleared it out less than half price a few years back.
In SA they are currently clearing BELRAY full and semi synth engine, fork and gear at at around 40% of MSRP , so I have restocked on that.
The 20/50 semi is standing up to the heat well in the G/S, still a nice golden colour after 4000 km and a few +40C days.

Thanks very much for the insightful commentary...
Re oils: I run full synth in all my BM drivetrains, after reading (in a post by Duane, I think) that it's one of the best ways to ensure a good/long drivetrain life.
This is the only one that has become problematic, but I'm guessing that the bike spent a number of years idle and parked in a shed so a seal going hard is quite understandable. (I did have a leak from a gear lever seal recently but that was fixed in less than 1/2 an hour with a $5 off-the-shelf seal.)
So, I'll be ordering a seal/gasket kit in the not too distant and (patiently) preparing to tackle the FD rebuild (prolly this winter). After a head's up I'll read up about the bearing removal, thanks Duane.
In the meanwhile i might top it up with a bit of dino diff oil and see if that helps the weeps... it's not a problem of major concern, more just a bit of an annoyance. And yep, I'll clean those valve covers, Steve.
Once rebuilt, the FD will be getting a fresh dose full synth once again.

Bearing doesn't have to come out to replace the seal Pete.
