Flasher
Well the flasher on my /6 has finally bit the bullet. Took it apart and no amount of tinkering can get it to work correctly. Hense my question. Is there a replacement other than the $94.00 BMW part

Re: Flasher
Are you talking about part 61 31 1 358 194? Apparently, there's a car part for the 2002 BMWs that can be used - 61 31 1 364 984. Hella also has something - 4DB 003 425-017 and 4DB 003 425-001. I pulled this from Joe Cuda's article that used to be on the Airheads website.

Re: Flasher
When my flasher stopped cycling to blink the lights, I resoldered (reheated and added solder) all the connections and component attachment points on the board. Started flashing again.
worth a try.

Re: Flasher
What model/year is your bike?? OOps just saw you /6 model....so follow first set of instructions that follow
You can use a standard Stant/Tridon flasher unit for car application as substitute but... There're about $5-7,00 at any auto parts place.
For earlier flasher relay having 4 terminals #49,49a, KBL and 31 you'll need a 3 terminal flasher unit...
Wire this up as follows (after putting new female lugs on wires)
New relay (3 prong type)
Terminal P = Blck/White wire - (goes to dash turn indicator) - old relay # KBL
Terminal L = Green/Yellow wire - (Load - to signal indicators) - old relay #49a
Termina X = Green/Black - (+12v) - old relay #49
The left over wire is old terminal #31 (ground) - don't need - just tape it off
For newer flasher relay having 3 terminals # 49, 49a and 31 - need 2 prong flasher relay
New flasher terminal ( 2 prong type)
One terminal - attach Green/Blck wire (old terminal #49 connection
Other terminal _ Green Yellow wire (old terminal #49a connection
NOTE: Doesn't matter which wire (Gr/BL or Gr/Y goes to first)
Left over wire from old flasher relay should be Brown (old terminal #31) - just tape off - not used
Hope this works - from my old notes - I used on both a 75 R75/6 (4 terminal flasher) and other on 82 RS (3terminal flasher)...good luck
This should work...but keep in mind tht these new flasher units don't indicate if you have a burned out bulb as the old flasher relays did but flashing at faster rate)...they just keep flashing in spite of 1 burned out bulb..

Re: Flasher
Hey Rob , Hi back at ya I looked up the flasher no, that Kurt gave me on the BMW 2002 car ,it was only $ 4.00 cheaper than the oem for the bike. Could not find any info on the Hella part no. either. I would be happy to substitute it with Duane, but I need it to blink on the left every once in a while! Moosehead, Thanks for you info, but you lost me a little bit there.
Re: Flasher
If you think he can use a relay off of a R65 (/7-ish), I have one for the price of a forum donation.
But I will need help figuring out which one it is.... It came with a T.S. buzzer, and there is a relay in the description for that.
I have one in my hands. It has 4 contacts; 30 & 87a are the switched contacts (open/close) and 85 & 86 energize the circuit. On the side it says 1 243 560.3 and a date of mfg. - 11/78.
Needs cleaned up.

Well, I never considered myself the dullest knife in the drawer , but when it comes to lectrics I am not to sharp. After reading mooseheads post and following the thread he gave, the light bulb finally came on .Rob Thanks for your offer. I did look on the site but did not see where or how to make a donation. Please send in the right direction for that

Does it look like it would work to you, painter?
To donate to Matt through Paypal, his email address is: matt@boxerworks.com
I will probably also need your mailing address again, painter, if this part does work out.
