I've watched it happen right in front of me. I was doing a ride with the OVM out of Corvallis and was following a couple of guys on old Harleys. We were headed around a gradual right hand curve. The first Harley was out of sight. Then we came around the curve and saw him in the ditch with dust everywhere, but he was still on the bike. The guy in front of me saw him, and rode right into the ditch behind him, even bumping his bike a little before coming to a stop. I was satisfied with the pavement so stayed on the road. I found a place to park off the road (a driveway, not a ditch) and went back to give them a hand. It was weird.

Why? He didn't break any laws. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't even get a ticket.
It's not against the law to rear end someone where you live ? He's lucky he didn't kill the guy on the bike.

It might be some sort of traffic violation, but if no cop sees it there probably won't be any legal hassles. Assuming the rider is licensed, sober, insured, and all that. We just let insurance companies work everything out.

I've read that in some countries it is illegal to kill people with your car. That must be weird.
