This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

I now feel vindicated for doing my own first service on my new Honda, although it was a MUCH simpler job that anyone from this forum could do, and the liability of voiding warranty is minor compared to that of an expensive KTM.

It is difficult to pay someone to love your bike as much as you do yourself.
I would have rather done the service myself, Actually I will be going over the whole service as I'm not sure if it was done. All this just to keep my warranty in tact. Such BS :(

Have they replied?
Don't let it screw your experience with your new bike. And don't say it is already screwed.
Where I see you standing: Pissed, fair enough. In possession of a perfectly functioning motorcycle, correct.
Able to deal with it, move on, and continue to enjoy life, correct.

I'm fine I just have to do some work I paid to have done. I just wish once I could get treated right a motorcycle shop. I'm friendly, positive, I didn't quibble about the price of the machine, I bought a thousand bucks worth of accessories that I could have got cheaper off the internet in an attempt to have a good relationship with this dealer....and they put the wrong oil in my machine. I'm just weary of incompetence @ $95./hr

It's the great theft of mechanic's work. The fact is that I WANT (at least) a $95 an hour mechanic doing a valve adjustment on a Desmo Ducati, and I'm willing to pay for it,

but...

When they do an oil change or a tire change, you don't get a $95 an hour mechanic - you get a $10 an hour mechanic - and you still get charged the same as you would for the really qualified wrench. Like ZM, I don't mind paying for expertise, but paying for expertise while receiving inexperience and incompetence is misrepresentation and theft in my book.

Charging $95 an hour by "The Book" hours is a lie. What they should really have is charges related to expertise. Charge $25 an hour for the $25 an hour work, and $100 and hour for the $100 an hour work. That still would not satisfy ZM's desire to actually have the work all done (and done correctly), but at least it wouldn't be systemically-designed fraud.

If I received that letter, I would refund the customer's money and offer to do the work myself. It would be a clear reason to re-asses how I ran my business. That letter would shatter me.

I'm sorry you have had that experience. That sucks. I think the letter should be also sent to KTM headquarters.

If the dealer is not performing all the specified work and if they are performing some of it incorrectly, how can the warranty be intact? I would ask that question of KTM.

If I inform KTM that the work was not done properly KTM could say I don't have warranty. :?
