Shorted starter, now bike won't run right...

Post by Deleted User 62 »

A friend here on the island has a '95 GS that he just replaced the starter on, due to the original (Valeo?) having "shorted to ground." Now the bike starts and runs fine for the first 50 feet then loses power. He spoke to the people at Motorrad Elektrik and they seem to think his Hall Effect Sensor is fried. I'm weak on electrical troubleshooting, does this sound right? How would I test for it? Are replacement sensors available and, if so, is there an online tutorial on replacing them? TIA

Does it idle fine at a standstill? What if you increase the throttle on the centerstand...doesn't it still die? I'm trying to understand why it would start if the sensor was fried???

Rob Frankham used to have a couple of page on this. You can try his old links in the webarchive.org website and see some of that info.

I said it "used" to be there but going to webarchive can bring an old snapshot up. Go to http://webarchive.org and put in the URL for Rob's website.
