European models and U.S. models frequently did not adopt a change like that on the same year.
No one but the Roo's know what was happening down there.

Swap a 77 R100RS for a K bike? Seriously?

Tes True Mal, though its been resprayed in a Cobalt blue, has an S fairing and wide bars fitted.
He has the full fairing and short bars, but I dont need that extra work..and I've found a buyer anyway
for my K at a great price for me.

But a 77 R100 (anything) can be fixed in your garage, whereas an '88 K can be a PITA for a lot of even routine maintenance.

Re: '77 R100RS
I totally agree Jean, if my current circumstances were different I would be seriously considering the swap,Jean wrote:But a 77 R100 (anything) can be fixed in your garage, whereas an '88 K can be a PITA for a lot of even routine maintenance.
though what I'm actually focusing on is getting the 10K together i need to buy my 7mx7m Bike Shed, I got 4500
for the K Bike so I'm half way there, tired of having the bikes living in the loungeroom or on the back verandah!

That's entirely true, but there is also a great deal less routine maintenance on the K.Jean wrote:But a 77 R100 (anything) can be fixed in your garage, whereas an '88 K can be a PITA for a lot of even routine maintenance.

Re: '77 R100RS
I've been keen on a '77 RS for some time... but they're few and far between down here.
Last year I got hold of a pretty neat/tidy 1979 RS, and love it, mostly (but not only) for the paint scheme (blue/silver w orange pinstripe).
Like the famed 77 it has 40mm headers.
AFAIK we (in OZ) got the Euro spec machines. Therefore, I believe, 40mm headers were original spec on (at least the) RS's up until 1980.
But I'm not 100% on that.
My mate's 1978 R100S has 38mm headers.
I would have thought that given my 79 RS had the 40's it would have had them as well?
Did the early 100S's in the US have 40mm headers or was it just the RS's...?

Re: '77 R100RS
Going from what Iv'e read lately, the EARLY '77 RS had 40mm headers, before things were changed
later in that year including 38mm headers & Enviro Pollution restraining of the engine etc, correct me if I'm wrong.
