Swing arm preload.

Gosh, I've always thought that the whole swing arm pivot thing was one of the easiest things to do on the bike. It's pretty much like common sense works just fine, isn't it? I'm going to watch the video so I can see what the flap is about.

No flap, just a query as to quantifying preload if one uses a socket to tighten, without holding the pin still.
A ratchet on the end of the socket prevents the use of a 6mm allen key to immobilise the pin.
Therefore, one doesn't know how much the pin spins when the locknut is tightened.

Seems like it would be easy enough for most anybody to make a special tool if they have a welder (or weldor) handy. Grind the socket as required for fit into the frame hole and flatten the end, then simply weld a handle to it, leaving the square hole clear for the allen wrench. A bit of care might be needed to keep the heat from running into the working part of the socket.

I'm thinking a length of steel, 1 1/2" X 1/8" or 1/4" thickness, with the right sized hole drilled or cut into it, would work fine--or for that matter a length of anything butt welded to the top and side of the socket without having to drill the hole.

Plus special tools for airheads are cool! You could do that in a heartbeat ME 109!

Yes, I see the need for a new tool.
I'll need to get another 27mm socket turned down to do it, as I like to take a plain 27mm with a special short piece of 12x12 solid in my tool kit.
Just in case something needs peening when I'm away from home.

So it's similar to tightening our locknuts when setting valve clearances, holding one still and tightening the other.
Not that I've worn out any swingarm bearings mind you......
