I don't believe for a minute that oil on the fork slider actually leaked past the seal. I think it was put there on purpose. The whole thing was staged I tell ya!

I've used a fine feeler gauge in the same manner. On dirt bikes. High mileage street bikes are a different matter.

Cordura/velcro gaitors; I made some for a Honda 500XL and they work fine. You put them on with tye-wraps.
Tools:
Antifreeze containers will make yellow ones, Clothes washing-liquid makes blue, orange, or white ones.
