Do I DARE?

Post by KellyVB 75R90S »

Well Hello everyone, I'm back after a long absence, The old 75 R90S has been down over a year now cuz of idling problems. Long story short, I bought a brand new set of Delorto's and put um on, even made a carb sync tool to adjust them with (new carbs have a vacume port on them). Started her up, all fluid went into the right bottle, left carb would now adjust at all. So, after talkin with Randy & Kurt in SA was told to check the valve clearence. SURE ENOUGH, both sides were so far off was surprised she ran at all. Adjusted the valves and started her up again, WOW what a difference, It was a pretty good idle from the start, was able to adjust both carbs, however iI had to unhook the carb syne tool cuz the vacume sucked the bottles almost flat (dont use plactic bottles stupid). Will have to build a new one using glass next time.

SO, she's running and rideable, BUT have noticed over the years that she sometimes smokes from the left cyl and was thinkin about replacing the rings. How big of a job is it? Do i have to do both sides? DO I DARE???

Thanks for listenin

If it was sitting on the sidestand for a year, it will PROBABLY smoke from the left cyl for a while.
Don't go into it right away.
What milage (If Km, is it STILL milage????) is on the odo?

No, it was on the center stand, dont know the mileage since the odm broke several years ago, but to guess id say 60k, I've had this bike for 30 yrs. Those who have been to the rallys at Ken's know it, and some have even ridden it.

Before I'd replace anything, I'd do a compression check and even a leak down test. That will tell you how much of a problem you have and where.

When a horizontal 2 cylinder engines sits around, it should be left at TDC. That way any rust that forms is above the ring.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.

+1

Now I expect Duane to com along and tell us about all the problems he has seen and fixed by not fixing them. Or perhaps by un-fixing the owner's fix.
