Tim, I guess that you now know that the oil that spills out of the cover when it is removed only shows that it get "that much oil" and maybe no more. One side could fill the bottom of the valve cover in a couple of minutes and the side with less supply might take an hour to fill the bottom.

No problem Duane, it's good to see you participating more. I have done the covers off test on other bikes in the past, but never thought to try it on this one. Oil in the cover gave me a false sense of security. I had also surmised that this was an unmolested engine, but the evidence says otherwise. What color sealant was used at the factory? I wonder if the drizzle I have seen coming out of the rockers is "normal", or maybe should be more of a gusher? Next time I adjust the valves, and before I rebuild the other side, I will compare the two. Makes me wonder how many other bikes are running around with semi plugged oil channels?!

as a newbie to airheads, if I wanted to know if my heads are oiling properly:
how much oil should I expect to see if I start it with the covers off?
Just a bit, like a minor scratch - or great spurts of it, like a cut artery?

Half a liter/minute ?! That's way more than the drizzle I've seen. Make sure you have something on the ground to catch the splatter, unless you like marking your territory!

I'm not saying you're wrong, Jeff, just that I've never seen that much. I will attempt to catch and measure the volume coming from the unplugged side of mine.

I probably am wrong Tim, just last time I check mine there was a 'reasonable' flow. Plus, a minute is a long time.
