I bought a right unit from a BMW dealer, when it arrived rather than being formed as I expected, it was nice and straight. Have been playing with that unit. Now at least I have a blueprint to follow from the screwed up unit. I do have one of those bending tools, works sort of OK, but clearances in using it present a problem, seems the distances between bends are too small for it to work properly.
Again not in a hurry, I have a nice set of dual ATE lowers that I sanded and polished, lots of improvement for the front end to install when I get enough gumption. Then there is the cost for new rotors,

Yeah, that caliper polishing is going to make for a HUGE performance increase.

Haven't done the calipers yet, I did the fork lowers. Since I have an early small diameter axel I found a set from a 74 S model, they were black and a really rough finish. Sanded them down and then took to buffing the aluminum out, got them looking pretty nice, maybe too nice as I am having second thoughts as it may ruin the character of the bike. A nice shinny front end with polished aluminum upper and lower trees, polished lower legs, and dual discs. Then we get to the rusty bits all over the frame. Paint cracking on the tank. Faded controls, key scratches of light mount. I just have to think about it more.

I converted my /5 to needles. Completely superior. They were not the same as the /7 needles (that come apart). IIRC, I did needles on the shaft and machined the blocks for needle thrust bearings as well. This was after the bushings got really worn on a long trip. I was setting valves every morning for 3+ weeks which got very old (although I got pretty quick at it).Jean wrote:I'd rather have the bronze bushings...
