Yes a little slow to get out and give the K1100 a good run after spending last year tidying it up from the PO, but Friday arvo I got a chance and tagged along part of the way with SteveD on one of his regular "ole boys" rides up into the high country.
With a few delays and waiting for another rider along the way to catch up from Melbourne we arrived at our destination of Beechworth around 9.30pm, yes we came up over the kangaroo infested Tolmie Way in darkness then up the King Valley.
With the other 8 or so riders from SteveD's group already at the pub and having been there since 6pm, we soon settled in for a few beers and cold leftover pizza and also a good catch up chat to Jeff from Albury who had driven down to meet us, always great to see ya jeff but it was just to bloody short and midnight came around to quickly mate, until next time..
The next morning I parted ways early from the others who where heading further north for another night, so after a quick feed at the famous Beechworth Bakery I was riding out of town and headed to Bright where I fuelled at 8.30am and then up over Mount Hotham, Dinner Plains and down into Omeo for a coffee and a 30 min break and then along the river and into Bairnsdale around 12noon for a relief stop at Maccas, then fuel and then along the Princes hwy for two hours to reach Trafalgar by 2pm with a shade under 1000kms covered... Loved It
The bike went extremely well, is very responsive out of corners and comfortable through the big twisty bends and seems to like the 5000rpm spot at about 125 - 130kph and also was surprisingly great on fuel when pushed along at that speed.
The Bright to Bairnsdale leg was 235kms and it used 12.6 litres
BTW I take my hat off to all those groups of push bike riders go up and down the 52kms of steep roadway to reach the top of Mount Hotham, you are crazy, you must be super fit, and yes I am slight jealous..
