It should. But AFAIK that's only to drain out oil that has leaked past the big oil seal next to the drive splines on the crown wheel, to prevent it from lubricating the brake shoes.SteveD wrote:Does this model have the hole in the bottom of the final drive that needs to be periodically unblocked?
OP: check that the screw that secures the speedo cable to the rear right upper corner of the gearbox has a hole at its centre - which is to ventilate the gearbox. If someone has replaced it with a generic screw without that hole, air pressure that builds up inside the gearbox when it warms up will force gear oil past the gearbox cover output shaft oil seal, into the drive shaft, and eventually into and out of the top vent hole on top of the final drive.
