petrol filters
Re: petrol filters
Tank filters are course screen type. Paper In lines as I have described will keep bowls cleaner. In line filters designed for Automotive use cannot possibly "restrict" fuel to a tiny Bing float bowl (especially when using 2).One of these can feed a Rochester 4 barrel. I agree, if you clean your tank every year, you really don't need them. I don't ever clean my tank. Most people realistically do not. I have only cleaned a rusty tank once on a Yamaha...because I had no choice.
Re: petrol filters
I have these on my 77RS only because they were installed by the PO.

I don't have any on any of my other carbureted bikes. Of course those with injection do.
Assuming the filter isn't clogged, you shouldn't have a problem with one. Automotive filters are designed to work with a pressure pump instead of gravity feed. The only time I had a problem with gas feed was due to the lining on an R90S coming off. I cleaned the tank out with vinegar to remove the old liner and then new RedKote.
