The sympathy is fresh. I was cooking up a batch for myself and just doubled the ingredients. Store in the freezer and reheat as required to get full steamy effect. I find a confined space is best.

I hope the repairs fall into the lower part of the range.
I like the 'beat test' play on words.
Check that tricky little ball thingy behind the oil filter (if fitted). It might be your turn.

ps: I just checked price on a new crank from Motobins 475 Quid (CAN$772).
More sympathy ingredients ordered, just in case.

I will definitely check that check valve (for the first time ever)
I have a new ball, and a new spring.
Still waiting for the retainer.
I was going to replace it at my next filter change anyway.
I don't think I pulled a ME109 tho, my oil light never flickers, not even at idle when hot.

Sounds though like you've got things well-in-hand, so I'll be eagerly waiting to read of your bike being back o n the road.

Sorry to hear that, gspd. They say the bottom end last at least 500.000km but that was a /5 and its limited power. Whtever you find, keep us posted. The parts will be cheaper in the UK, I bet ya.

Plugs and compression A-OK.
Oil pressure 70psi at idle.
Ordered new con rod bearings and bolts.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't see anything else wrong when it's apart.
Maybe I'll fix it with my eyes closed, just in case...

I'd be lookin for extended warranty coverage. If the bottom end is supposed to last 500,000km and you coudn't even make 400,000.

It's not like your bike has ever been abused, or over-reved or turned upside down with the engine runnin........ :o

Zaphod Beeblebrox had some 'peril sensitive sunglasses' that would turn completely black at the first sign of danger.*
I'm sure the technology could be adapted.

Charlie, did you see that there's a sequel? Eoin Colfer has written a sequel: And Another Thing (he's the guy who wrote the Artemis Fowl kids series). I read it, and it's not bad. Definitely belongs in that world. Lots of Guide fanatics think he's done something heretical, but the way Adams twisted the story around differently for the recordings, the radio play, the movies, etc., he definitely didn't seem to feel it was any kind of untouchable canon.
