It's the thrust piston that expands when hot , what I don't know is if BMW changed the part after it started to give problems? Certainly mine is fine, but we don't quite as hot as in aus.
Worthwhile to check the condition of theneedle bearing in the clutch arm, they do get worn if not maintained.

I re-greased the needle bearing in the clutch arm too.
Ther was really no lube on the thrust piston when I pulled it out. I may have forgot to grease it when I did the engine swap. It is well greased now. And will grease the new one when I put that in.

Update. I have a feather light smooth clutch at last. Had to ditch the new cable I fitted March last year.
I installed the new clutch piston 2 days ago. Lots of high temp grease went on and around it. Still the clutch cabel is grabbing and is so heavy.
I still had the original BMW cable. I fitted that this morning. Big difference. I aslo re-routed the cable so it is not going down between the down tube and the steering head braceing. All the cable go through this.
Looks at the new cable looks like it got pinched and this woulkd have casued the grab? The orginal cable has a really thick outer covering to stop this from happening. The new one does now.
So can you still buy OEM BMW cables????? I like to have a spare. Like the spare throttle cables I have.

I've bought all of my cables from the dealer, so they are OEM BMW cables. I never thought to get a spare clutch cable because I can ride clutchless if I have to, though it's a pain in the neck.

Yes, from the dealers. They're not cheap, but they work best. The Venhill cables from Motobins are rubbish.

Yes they did change it, there is a service bulletin on it and it gives a width spec. I don't know what it's made of but good luck on sanding it down. You will know if it's a bad one, the clutch throw will get very sticky, and may even stick in the clutch disengaged position! I haven't seen a bad one in a long time, guess most all have been changed out. Is there a place to look up service bulletins? By the way this was also a problem in older K bikes.

Looks like I will be buying a OEM one then. I am getting a bit over the aftermarket stuff that does not work for long or allows oil leaks (another story for another time with the rocker covers I bought).
The piston has been replaced a new one from Motorworks. With the old OEM clutch cable it is so smooth. No more grabbing. I wont bother to try to smooth the old one down.
