VoltageDropToDeath
Re: VoltageDropToDeath
All lights are fine. The Gen light never flickered but does come on during the initial check. (When key is turned on) bIKE HAS ALWAYS RUN PERFECTLY. tOMj

So, it comes on with ignition and goes out above idle, then back on brightly at idle. One more question. If ridden at night, is it glowing softly above idle? They do that sometimes.724thomas wrote:All lights are fine. The Gen light never flickered but does come on during the initial check. (When key is turned on) bIKE HAS ALWAYS RUN PERFECTLY. tOMj
Otherwise, we need to know the measurement of volts AT the battery terminals.

Is the battery lead acid? If it's dry, suspect the regulator is shot and has cooked the battery. You should've seen high volts on the dash vm though...maybe the battery is just dead.
Regulators are cheap...no need to buy from a dealer. Test it first.

Re: VoltageDropToDeath
Tom,
You really need to test the voltage at the battery with an accurate voltmeter. On the face of it, your riding symptoms are those of a bike with a charge circuit that ain't... in other words, you're running on battery volts only... but... if that were the case, I'd expect the charge light either to stay on or never come on. Without a good idea of what's happening in voltage terms at various revs and loads, all else is just guesswork...
Regards
Rob
