I was about to start screaming No-o-o-o-o, and urging you to hang onto your tools. Tools are important to a bloke (I like mine a lot). But then I thought, "Damn soft Yanks. What the hell do they need a fekkin' bike lift for. What's wrong with kneeling on the cold hard concrete for endless hours? Bunch of pussies, and so on ...."
Yep Scot. Sell the damn lift. It'll do yer good, mate. (er ... grin)

What the hell do I need a bike lift for if I don't have a bike to put on it?

Put a piece of plywood on it and use it for:
a) a variable height work bench
b) a buffet table
c) a layout or cutting table for leather, sandpaper strips, fabric, etc.
d) a place for somebody to throw their sleeping bag on instead of on the not-as-clean floor
e) giving a friend a ride up and down
I've used mine for all five.
(Don't you just hate it when somebody gives you a serious answer to a heartfelt complaint?)
Editing: You don't need actually a piece of plywood on the lift when taking a friend for a ride on it. It is classier though if it's a girl friend you're lifting.
(It's been over 2 hours since I posted. Thank goodness I could still edit this important piece of information in.)

You may get another bike.
Just a useful thing that you already have at home and would be a PIA to replace.
Won't get that much for it anyway.

f) Make extra cash repairing airheads and other motorcycles
g) Get free beer for working on nearby forum member's bikes.
h) Use as a "tailgate lift" to load/unload really heavy things out of the back of your Prius.
i) Use as scaffolding to put wallpaper border all over your house.
j) Use as a platform from which to survey all your domain from your lofty perch.

Those kinds of lift are good for wheel servicing and suspension stuff. If you can get a wood block under the sump you might be able to use it on an RS.

The best little tool I use on my lift is a scissor jack that uses frame cups that slide across the top.
Off the top of my head its about 3 to 4 inches high collapsed and holds a 1000 lbs.
Looks like this but mine is not a Handy, can't remember its MFG?
Gives you the idea. It's the sliding cups that hold the frame rail that makes this a must have for afull size lift for me.

Ken, I see that it is advertised for one person to put it into the chock, but can one person release the bolt to get it out?
