I'm running the stock floats too, no problem, but the factory method for setting the float level did not work. they needed to be hanging down just slightly, not level with the bottom of the carb.

What symptoms do you notice if the floats are set per factory spec, level with the bottom of the carbs?
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1)

It was my understanding that setting the floats is by measuring the height of the fuel in the float bowl after the float has shut off flow. This is a best way to determine that the float is letting the right amount of fuel. Snowbum talks about heights of fuel for 32 and 40 mm carbs.

Mine are set according to the Haynes manual.
Fuel is shut off when float is parallel to the carb/bowl mating surface.
Have not had to change it and it seems to run fine.
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

While the fuel flow did shut off when holding the float level with the bottom of the carb, the carbs still leaked with the bowls on with new gaskets and new float needles. So apparently the floats needed to be set lower to lift sooner. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the alcohol in the gas. All my floats were bought from Huckys, so I am also assuming they are Bing parts.
