How many miles were on this motor anyway???

It's a lot Major, With whats on the odometer and the general state of things it's either 300,000 Km
or 400,000 Km. my guess is the latter!!
Well then, I guess all those very loose tolerances were well earned.

A Belated Report
The rebuild was a bit costly, but worthwhile. I now have nearly 2000 Km on it and must say that it
is a lot quieter, uses less oil, and has a bit more grunt over the whole rev range.
The job involved, Big end bgs, Barrels, Pistons, Rings & Gudgeon pins and Heads resurfaced,
Valves, Guides,Springs, Collets, Rocker bgs,Seats re Cut, (and lapped in by meself)
In the Clutch area, 2nd hand pressure spring and pushrod, New RMS and O ring, Oil pump o ring,
G Box input seal and Clutch pushrod bge. Also did the timing chain with seals etc,.
A few other things were, 2nd hand sump pan (previously cracked by me and welded up by others
but still weeped), Rear shock rubber and gear lever bush. New filters n oils etc, of course.
Rub n Buff, Plus spray cans of Flat Black engine enamel and Black enamel has made the job look
a lot nicer.
Many thanks to this forum and everyone, as I'm a passive reader I've gained a lot of infomation
and confidence by having this forum and members support, Many thanks.
Some shots of the bike.

Sounds like the end of the road for work on the bike for some time Bob...or at least I'm guessing you hope so.
It's sure looking pretty clean. Did you rub'n buff the lot?

Your bike is looking great Bob. I just purchased some rub and buff to use on my wheel hubs. They look like new. Now to pick up the rims from the polisher on friday and start to lace them up. I might clean the engine and rub and buff it too.

Good stuff in't! Less is best though, but it's easy to get carried away.

Yeah Steve it's good stuff, only the heads and exh nuts not done yet, except of course
the forks and wheels.
Thanks She'llbe, the barrels and heads are the hardest to do, thats why I hav'nt finished
yet, those parts also seem to consume a lot of product.
I used a Scotchbirte for cleaning and a soft toothbrush to apply, Its well worth doing
though as those pix of my bike are after a trip to Newcastle via Sofala and back with
some rain arround Goulbourne,

Great to hear you've got it all sorted Bob.
That's a lot of work there!
It can be quite painful shelling out for new parts, but a box full of new parts is a great painkiller!

It will be interesting to hear your report on how long the "Rub and Buff" holds up for you.
