Yea I have. Whoever gave that road its nickname has not traveled in Canada.Duane Ausherman wrote:A list of part number replacements is great, but out here in the west it is a whole nother matter. On some roads the gas stations are so far apart that signs warn drivers. It is easy to be a few hours from a parts place.
Ever ride US 50? It is known (proudly) as the loneleist (sp) highway.

Any and all disclaimers may apply
Re: Is this a little over the top?
I've never really carried any spares, but for my upcoming outback run I think an icu, and spare coil will be in order.

I've had a VR fail on one trip, and a rotor on two. I've had the ignition bean can fail once.
For a long trip, I now carry a VR, an ICU, the bean can HES set up, a Harley coil (small and compact), a rotor and extraction tool. They fit neatly, along with a VM into a small bag.

If the starter relay went kaput, could you still bump start the bike?dougie wrote:Yup. Got it.Kurt in S.A. wrote:What about a starter relay? That's something that I carry as a spare.

Don't know for sure but I would think so. Hopefully ignition is independant of that relay.Chuey wrote: If the starter relay went kaput, could you still bump start the bike?

Did you mean can an airhead be bump started
OR
could I bump start an airhead?

I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

Yep, that's how I started my '77S bike when its starter relay crapped out at the Hell's Canyon Dam (or before I got there, no way of knowing).Chuey wrote: If the starter relay went kaput, could you still bump start the bike?

Depending on the journey, not at all too much. I would add: two sparkplugs already gapped, clutch cable and a spare front tube, which can be used in the rear in a pinch. The chances of finding a tube of the right size in Podunk is unlikely.dougie wrote:You know - perhaps silly, anal, paranoid?![]()
After maybe $100, I now carry on board in the tail section -
A spare for each of the 3 relays,
spare VR,
spare ICU,
and I think I can get a Dynacoil in there.
All good used or new.
Re: Is this a little over the top?
A spare headlight relay is the real corker. They do NOT come from your nearest auto-parts store!
Anyhow, whatever you DO have a spare for...will NOT fail.

Hey Tim - what's a tube?Tim Shepherd wrote:Depending on the journey, not at all too much. I would add: two sparkplugs already gapped, clutch cable and a spare front tube, which can be used in the rear in a pinch. The chances of finding a tube of the right size in Podunk is unlikely.

I have a CO2 patch kit for mine.
