A quote from the move "the castle". 'Tell him he's dreaming". That guy used to many words. He should have just left it at, I should have my head examined!!!!

Tim, evidently, you sold the ones you posted here this morning. They looked cool. If I have to do any fabrication, I may as well make my own. In the seeable future, I'll be doing up another cafe racer and I'll try to make something more elegant than the ones I made up for the one I have. Actually, they work well, have folding pegs and are tucked in close to the frame; all attributes I was hoping for. So, in that regard, they're elegant. What they cost me in time, I'd gladly have paid the price for some that are already made.

One question I have for anybody who has bought already made rearsets, (or, as our buddy calls them, kickbacks), is does the brake work well? What I've seen of most of them looks like it wouldn't.

No, I didn't sell them. I'm just torn between using them or making my own from bits. I see the biggest hurdle as getting a working rear brake switch when using the universal rearsets. That, and the reduced leverage at the foot end...

Just put in a request with my library.
Boy I'm going to miss this library system when I move.

I think you're right there Chuey - most airhead rearsets run the brake lever through the existing pivot bolt hole greatly reducing the leverage available (unless a much longer arm gets fitted to the drum - which I doubt happens). A frame builder over here has a neat solution that looks to circumvent the problem with a parallelogram setup:

On mine, I tried a couple iterations. Additionally, I asked a genius friend of mine to brainstorm with me and figure out something that would work. That was a disappointment. In the end, I used my brake lever to push on the existing set-up, maybe kind of like the picture of the frame with all the holes. It works just as well as a stock unit. It took away any ideas I had about being clever. Humility is not a bad result, I guess.

I just finished watching this. Great! Thanks for the recommendation!!!

It's funny - the best DVDs one gets from the library have the least scratches and fingerprints on them (Carl Sagan's Cosmos is another example...).
