I liked the way you wrote it. I visualized your commute as a large loop that you always rode counter-clockwise as viewed from the skies over Colorado.Steve in Golden wrote: I realized my original post didn't make a lot of sense, when I said "maybe it was because there were more left turns than rights on my commute, which is where most of my mileage comes from". DUH! If there were more left turns than right on the way in, it would be reversed on the way home so would be even. Unless I took a completely different route in the afternoon than morning. Which I sometimes do.

Re: I wondered why my tire was worn more on the left side
I think road crown still plays a role. Traveling in the right lane, road crown wears the tire off center to the left. Turning left on the outside of a turn the crown places the bike off camber wearing the left even more, while turning right on the inside of the turn banks the pavement in favor of the bike, wearing the right side less. The net effect of the crown always favors the right side of the tire and I don't think it can be discounted.

Even if right turns are equal to the number of left turns the left side will wear faster because it is further around a left than a right (when driving on the right side of the road).

That is the theory of the article linked earlier in the string.George Ryals wrote:Even if right turns are equal to the number of left turns the left side will wear faster because it is further around a left than a right (when driving on the right side of the road).

Yeah but he summarized the whole article in one sentence. Concise!Major Softie wrote:That is the theory of the article linked earlier in the string.George Ryals wrote:Even if right turns are equal to the number of left turns the left side will wear faster because it is further around a left than a right (when driving on the right side of the road).

Re: I wondered why my tire was worn more on the left side
How about doing a used tire exchange/sale for some our southern and english brothern... I for one will sell my left hand worn Metzlers tires below retail (plus a reasonable shipping and handling charge) to those interested Kiwis, Ozzies or Brits. Hopefully they get my expected fun and use I got on the other side. PM me if you want followup.
I always brake in corners and think how I am going to get home if I really mess up. When I get home, I wished that I hadn't used my brakes and should have ridden a bit further.

On all the bikes with I've owned with a single disc front brake, I've noticed, when changing fork oil, the non disc fork is always darker.
Any and all disclaimers may apply
Re:One or two, no matter if you have none.
I fully expected Major Softie to suggest that only pussies have front brakes. Meow.

Do you know what "pussy" actually means? Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qyHS4me ... ure=relmfu and find out in a rather fun way.
The Major would have used it correctly. Well, of course, what else. He is not niggardly with his vocabulary.
