I lost one of the engine mounting nuts and a surefoot sidestand on a trip in France, could not find the side stand, really difficult when you are on a fully loaded bike and its too difficult to put it on a sidestand by yourself. Eventually sorted by a guy who made me a stand to fit over the passenger foot peg.
my fault not tightening up the nuts.

I doubt the threaded rod would have come out. You would have noticed it sooner than later when the foot pegs didn't feel quite right. Not everyone would, but you probably would have.

You wouldn't believe how many people come into the bicycle shop with pedals that have backed clear out of the crankarms. It's got to feel wonky quite a while before they back all the way out and strip the threads!

This is a good heads up. I'll go out and check all of mine Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing that with all of us.
