I'll be in the pragmatist camp, too ...
What is there about that hole that a simple rubber grommet wouldn't solve ?

But then I am not a fan of chrome,
certainly wouldn't shelve a good part for the lack of it –
and would be happiest if there was none of it !

You don't care what I think about chrome, either, but in gspd's absence, I'm sure melville can give you pointers on polishing it up to one level below actual chrome.

Is chrome one of those weird 'merican fetishes?

That was my first thought too, but I didn't have one that fit and wasn't willing to drive 2 miles to the Ace Hardware store go get one. I hate to go buy one little thing when I can improvise something.

Here you go, stainless not chrome. I just purchased a new buffing unit, so if you want it buffed out, will do, it came with stainless rouges.

Thanks gang.
I had no idea this would cause a 2 page discussion!
I want the nut for looks more then anything else. I have one already but the scratches are too deep to polish out and still retain decent shape. I'm probably going to jump on the ebay one unless something else comes up (or i find one that i can polish).
Cheers!
