Not anymore! I'm hearing excellent reports on reliability and reduced maintenance requirements. Still nothings cheap about owning a Duck.
True. The maintenance intervals have become much longer, and the reliability is far superior to the Ducs of the past, and really quite good by any standard. Still, valve adjustments are a $1000 at the dealer, or a weekend project that needs a $400 shim set if you don't have a dealer nearby to get shims from. Cam belt changes were up to (I think) 15k miles the last time I looked, and that will probably cost you $500 at a dealer - maybe $200 at home.

Oh, and most Duc owners are still terrified at the prospect of riding their bikes in the rain, so they still have a ways to go in the "bulletproof" department. ;)

I was reading that Ducati is considering producing a spring valve actuation engine. I hope they do. The 1200 Multistrada is a fantastic bike. I was able to red line it through the gears, but really, I don't need that much power. I'd gladly give of some power for a more owner friendly maintenance regime.
