Stephen, I'm going from memory on this as I just sold my R100 (naked) but the main difference between the R100 and R100RS main loom is, as I think stated above, a seperate loom for the instrument panel meters (volt and clock and lights for them) on the RS/RT looms. In addition the main harness going to bucket was a bit longer due to positioning of headlight on RS/RT on the spider bracket. Also, the front turn indicators were 2 separate looms coming from the instrument loom as was the "eyebrow" parking light in the RS/RT I think..(.not looking at my RS right now but can when get home)

So, I think you could make a R100 harness work for an RS, The separate instrument loom for the RS/RT you could make up with any type of connector (7 pin I think) or hard wired as well as the turn indicators and parking light "eyebrow". Think you would have enough length in the R100 harness to go the bucket mounted on spider...would be tight but think doable.

Wish Had the R100 in the garage to measure things but she's gone out west.

Thanks everybody, I thought as much: loom can be used, might be tight, (non-BMW) fairing instruments have to be wired separately. I guess, I have time to hunt for some vgc R100RS loom in the Faazerland.

when i converted my RT back to an S the RT loom is a little bit longer in the link that goes to the headlight, this is because the headlamp on the RT and I would guess the RS is as further forward than the R100.

I was left with with excess wire that I tidied up in some fashion, it annoyed me and so i replaced the main wiring harness, this was a few years back when you could still pick up a new harness for £150.

Back in the day in the UK it was very common to Buy R100s and R80s fitted from new with RT and RS fairings.

Hopefully this is helpful,

Charles

Very helpful, Charles, thanks. It confirms my assumption.

I decided to buy a complete 1979 R100RS wiring harness (main, engine and tail section) as I intend to "downgrade" the ignition to points (beancan) + DynaBooster during the "up"grade to make the R100 a RS.
