Lots of things can have been changed on a bike since 1974. Check the engine no on realoem, this will give you a build date. Bmw's model year starts in September after the summer holiday shutdown, so a build date of sept 74 will be a '75 model.
Bikes built either side of a model change can be a mix and match of parts as the previous model parts were used up.

Re: curious 1974 bmw r90/6
I'n surprised it has black turn signals, most 1974's had the metal onesjgleadle wrote:its a april 1974 with drilled disk, black turn signals, /5 controls. i have yet to find the vin on the engine
on parts places it says that forks are different after 09-1974 os if i have a 04-1974 do i have /5 forks
Re: curious 1974 bmw r90/6
You won't have /5 forks as they didn't fit disc brakes to /5s, you will probably have the early /6 forks with a 14mm front axle rather than the 17mm one fitted in ?
I'm not sure what further chanes BMW made to the forks at that time, but over the /6 model range ther were various changes to the internal damping of these forks.

I'd check the FRAME number AND the Engine number...they might not be the same.
Black plastic turn signal housings on a '74 is suspicious to me too. But, the /6's are notorious for lots of changes over the time they were run. AND something ugly might have happened to the original ones, too.
