Here is a link to the installation guide for the R45/R65 4-way flasher kit, if anyone is curious. It does not really apply, here.

WOW, ROB. THAT is a very nice explaination of the 4-way emergency flashers.
Your schematic is a lot prettier than mine.
And it does apply as it DOES tell you how to wire everything together.
To address the battery load issue...why not use LED-lamps instead of "normal" lamps? Wouldn't that would solve the problem?
Of course, it would add to the cost a little bit but by that time, you really wouldn't care.

Yes Rob, I'd love to see your schematic for that set up...it bugs me I don't have 4 way hazards on my 82 RS. Have factory set up on the GS and have liked them when needed!

Didn't see it on your website...

I built your fog light circuit ...works great..not so worried about fog where I live but gravel dust...its like riding in a white out and I wanted to know that my "dust" light was on so as not to be run over but the nut bar SUV's and gravel trucks along our road!

but I am wondering if I connected the big diode (#13 in the schematic) to the wrong fuse.

My 4-ways ONLY work when the ignition is in the "run" position (headlight on, in the States), and with one of the turn signals selected with the TS switch, as well as the push on/off 4-Way button, of course.

I always suspected I wired it up wrong, somehow. I'll have to check it out in my "free time" - you know, when I'm not so busy riding all the time.

I re-wired my flasher circuit with a simple 2 terminal relay powered from a dedicated fuse for easy on the road trouble-shooting (which I haven't had to do any of so far)..
My turn signals (and therefore my 4-ways) work without the key.
I'm not worried about somebody switching them on when fiddling with the bike because I also have a 'Touch 'n' Die' alarm system.

Sorry for the delay... My main computer is in the middle of an upgrade which should have taken an hour and has so far taken 3 days... and I ain't there yet!... Thank you so much Bill and all the other computer moguls who have contributed so much 'enjoyment'. As soon as I get up and running, I'll dig out the diagram.

Labradog

My 78RS came standard with the flasher unit and still works well.

I have the BMW flasher wiring diagram for my model if you think that will help. Happy to pass the pdf on if you so wish.
