I understand your situation Tom, where have you looked?
There will be very cheap lenses, if you look in the right place.

more likely,.being based in the uk, they can sell a lot more of the LHD version, so can charge more.

I doubt that. Most parts prices (unless they are for more "rare" NLA parts) are dependent on the dealer's cost. I'll bet the left-hand drive lenses are more expensive everywhere.
