Thanks mate, looks similar to the one that I have already tried, two 87 pins most of the start relays for this vintage need an 87a. If you don`t have one mate (and I know you won`t stress) I will get one from Munich, it`s not the mortgage.

G`day all
The wiring diagram in the Haynes for the 78 r100 is incorrect (NO). After checking with max as steve first suggested
you can see the difference both in the relay # and the schematic on the side. Have ordered the correct one from the local bloke. Haynes have the r100 from 77 thru 83 as having an 87a blade after looking at max, they have 2 87`s yep it does make a difference check the diagram. One learns from ones mistakes. Thanks to steve for his help.

Have the problem sorted now, wrong starter relay, stuffed light relay. Both replaced at BMW prices (Yep). I made the mistake of going for the el cheapo. The situation with the ignition switch remains, as you need to back of from the full on position to get the lights on main. But that is now a known. Has anyone used the butt solder wire joiners with the shrink wrap. Need to do the digital speedo/tach next and there isn`t much room around the steering head for a soldering iron to allow a tidy job.

I think I have one of those relays, I will check to see where 87A is, but I believe it is in the center. With your 5 pins, 2 are the pull circuit for the coil and the 3 other contacts would be normally closed, common and normally open.

Yep. Worked a treat fixing some wiring on my loom. I replaced a whole section using them.

I'm thinking to get as much of the adjacent wiring harness exposed as possible, then wrapping it neatly with black vinyl electrician's tape. If the starting and stopping of the tape wrap is hidden then it might look a little like a factory wrapped wiring harness--albeit one that has swallowed a gopher.enigmaT120 wrote:I have some of those but haven't used them yet.
