I think it came away at the buckle. I might have had too much tension on it?Chuey wrote:Steve, can you tell how the strap failed and ended up there?
Lately, I've been using rein material (1/2" approx. leather strap from the saddlery [horse rider stuff]) that I rivet to a bicycle toe strap buckle. I will be very careful of any cloth items from now on.

Re: Snowy Mountains.
I use straps from 'just straps' They are about 25mm wide, which is probably still pushing it safety (break) wise.SteveD wrote:
What are you using Jeff? I was thinking a leather belt that won't come apart, but if it did it could be a disaster.

They have a slide through 'cant pull backwards' buckle that has the little tab to depress for removal.
I thread the strap through the pannier handle so the strap is prevented from moving forwards or backwards.
Cut to length, so there is just enough strap.

Shit steve, rather lucky with that outcome.
Roll of grey "100mph" duct tape and a box cutter.... Never come loose!
You Ozzies have some strange traditions. I'm assuming that this is a regular thing.

Gidday Fellas,
ZM: no tradition that I know of mate, but now you've said it you just may have got the ball rolling??
Maybe a, "last one to arrive at the rally site gets "100mph grey taped" to a gum tree 3 feet off the ground", distance, break downs or stuck at the pub will not be tolerated and or made fit for an excuse, any takers??
Of course those with a new bike that have to iron out some teething bugs will be exempt.

Re: Snowy Mountains.
I would think they should be the primary targets. If they have just purchased an OLD bike, perhaps they could be exempt, but a NEW bike??? Oh, they definitely go to the head of the line.grant81rs wrote:Of course those with a new bike that have to iron out some teething bugs will be exempt.
