I don't think the valve clearances change very substantially between hot and cold. If they did, not only would the engine sound different there would be a perceptible difference in the way it ran due to the changes in valve timing.

Valve clearances are determined more by the camshaft ramp design than by the need to accommodate differential thermal expansion.
