Very sad news...was quite the lady. I saw her at a couple of the BMW National rallys (Vermont and Trenton) some years ago and she was very tiny...I couldn't imagine her on the size of beemer she did ride. Yes, she will be missed and is a legend in the riding community for sure

Well on the one hand we have a very experienced motorcyclist, over a million miles to her credit. On the other hand we have an 82 year old cager. Just hazarding a wild guess here but which one is more likely to be a good driver?

I have little doubt it was the cager's fault. It usually is as most cagers are brain dead and can't drive worth crap.

On the other side of that argument, at over a million miles to her credit, the odds of her having an accident were going up exponentially...!

Personally I'd rather go out on my MC, or mountain bike, or while climbing a mountain or some other hazardous but fun activity, than go out the way most people do. Most people go out lying in a hospital bed after weeks of sickness, hooked up to a bunch of beeping machinery, full of IV's. Nobody says "They died doing what they loved" in those cases, eh?

I disagree Tim....each time one gets on the bike, regardless of mileage, the odds are 50/50 -- one will have an accident or one will not have an accident.

I think the actual odds are FAR less than 50/50. If that was true, we'd crash, on average, every other ride. If that was true, insurance would be WAY more expensive. That said, "exponentially" may have been a poor choice of words...
