The right one is the common one to fall off if the rubber band breaks, but the left one is usually a fiddle to coax off. Jean, are you sure it wasn't a carpark discount thing?
I just have a loose ziptie around the mainframe and hook it onto the rubber band hook of the right cover. If that stays put, then the rear part does too.

SteveD. I rode and never stopped except for the STOP sign(s).
We DID lose 2 VW wheel covers to a carpark discount shopping stop a few years ago tho.
Replaced them with some E-bay cheeeepies and now are tyrapped onto the wheel!!
To all: I have figured a way to prevent another cover-loss when I get some replacements. I will fix a connection between them that's positive...NO more rubber bands!!
Plan is to drill small holes in the part where the bands hook, put a piece of scrap wire thru and fasten the wires together!!
Each side will have it's own little wire tail.
OR I'll do the string thing as described earlier.
Has anyone tried using a velcro-strap arrangement?

You are correct, Jean - R65 covers would not fit.

The nice thing about the R65 covers is, they had stylish "vent" slots in them and it was very easy to slip a tie-strap through them and around the frame tube.

But yeah, I think $49 each is a great price!

Martindale hasn't answered yet.
Thanks for the e-bay link, Norm. I have a friend who does ebay a lot and I'll get them to make a bid for me.
I searched for "battery covers" and got no hits, last night. I didn't try "SIDE covers"!!

The ebay search I did a couple nights ago only had astronomical "Buy it Now" prices. Hope this listing or Martindale
bodes well for you!

I found some offered at much more than the $49 each , new, I mentioned (BMW2Valve) and they were salvage items!!
I guess some people just don't do research.
