I have used DEKAs now for several bikes, the current one is going on 7-8 years and survived a regulator meltdown. Good product made in the USA (PA). It is a little thinner than stock so I use a small bungee cord wrapped around front to back in my R100S. I can pull the battery in/out in less than 30 seconds. Only time I put it on a battery tender is during the long winter in New England.

Mine uses the oem bracket to hold it in. No mods at all. The tool box thing fits in easy.

Is your bike the same as my 1984 R100? I found a place locally that carries the Deka ETX16. did you ground and postive cable mount the same as the OEM battery?

It should be the same. The bracket uses nuts the same as the ones that hold the tank on. The bracket lies across the top of the battery and two posts seat it in position.
Both neg & pos attach the same as oem.

Thanx Steve! I think I will pull my old battery out and take down for a direct comparison. It will be nice to have a maintenance free battery.

Just replaced the Deka ETX30L ( finally failed) in my 1985 R80.
I have had the bike for 3.5+ years and the battery was in it
when I purchased it.
Replaced it with a Motobatt MBTX30U (AGM 32ah 380cca).
Both are a very tight fit in the case.
Ordered another Motobatt yesterday (Au $180 delivered) for my 1981 R100RS
as it is now running and needs a bit more money and work to
put it on the road.

+1 on the motobatt being a quality battery.

I've had one for coming up four years.
Totally drained it after leaving my unswitched heated grips on. It was two weeks before I found out.
That was about 9 months ago. Recharged it and away it went again, same as usual.

There's only one wee problem with a Motobatt battery

Even a white battery was so ugly on my /2 that I just ended up painting it black.
