Both the R1200ST & R100RS have been withdrawn...presumably sold.
Never mind, I'm not in a great rush.

10 thousand kms, aftermarket suspension, and a real novelty for me ...heated grips!

Ta Grant. Yes Charlie its an 09 model. I had the same idea as Steve, putting ol' schtarker on club plates, I will still tinker and show up at rallies. The KLR is for exploring the back roads around here and maybe some longer dirt tours.
So far, I think the KLRs a good thing. 160km ride home last night, first impressions are:
- the mid-range poke is better than I expected. Comfortable top gear overtaking.
- 80-90km/hr the motor just purrs, very very relaxing to just cruise along at that speed (followed my speed restricted daughter, she is on her L plates)
- 100+ it loses that Zen, its getting busy and buzzy, oh well, thats a single for ya. I might gear it up yet.
- and wow, a small fairing that actually works! Lifts that breeze nicely. No buffeting, my helmet sits above it all. I see them with taller screens fitted but the OEM seems fine for 6 foot me.
Change of fluids and a new front tyre (I don't trust the 7 yr old half worn original and I will be set.
Right now though, bloody work is getting in the way of having fun!

136K km imho. 6/1983 R100RS as per the vin. I didn't see any paperwork.
The front wheel was less than 2 inches off the ground. I couldn't run my boot under it but the stand worked easily, on and off. It had wear and would need repair, but it was still reasonably solid. Oem side stand was ok.
Under seat paint code said it should've been Alaska Blue..Grant checked it for me from home. The maroon paint looked newish but it had hand done stripes...too wobbly for factory but passed the 10 feet visual test. Tank has been internally cleaned...no red liner. Taps were a little leaky.
Wheels have been painted a while back. Front had the gussets, but the paint was peeling and rough. They'd need stripping and cleaning again. Tyres were like cracked concrete. The front could've been 20 years old!
Instruments worked after I reseated the big plug. Lights all ok, GEN light behaved as it should. L fr blinker x2 normal speed, L rr blinker fail--new globe..easy. Forgot to test the horn.
The seat base was rough but solid. Two strong hinges and the lock was nice and smooth to use. The seat cover had two ciggie burn sized holes in it, but looked new enough to have been a replacement. It looked a tad fatter than it should've..wondering if extra foam had been added? The rear seat badge was missing.
Throttle cables were old. It started easy, though the headers had the remnants of warmth from a recent fire up.. New battery. Idled well, sounded good. Maybe a little quiet, so was wondering if the valves were deliberately set. No oil on the shelf so the rms ok for now. If it's been sitting though...
Staintune headers, Overlander mufflers so all SS exhaust. Sounded good, just like Mals!
No clicking noises when rolling it around, controls all felt good, snicked in and out ok. Front brake felt stiff like the 15mm master cylinder usually does. Plenty of meat on the pads and the discs appear to be cast iron and hardly used at all. The rear disc was solid, not perforated.
Steering head was notch free, forks were clean, no pitting & seals dry. Lash at the rear wheel felt good and no wobble when wriggling the wheel.
It looks like it would only need new tyres $300, a new blinker globe and a good wash for a roadworthy cert.
It wouldn't take much to get it up and going I guess, but I'd probably wanna redo the wheels in black. $200? New oils & filters, brake system flush, polish the exhaust system...
I didn't test ride it as I decided not to bid or make an offer. The fireman appears to be an early bidder.
A 78-79 R100RS Motorsport sold in West Oz days back for $3500! Grant says freight would be $900. It's almost that much for freight from NA!
