We got split up on the way back to Cooma, so a good time to take a pic of Bob and Jeff's bikes...

We stopped at Jindabyne for lunch and provisions. This well-loaded Suzuki was in the parking lot - number plates from QLD so it looks like he's gonna be away from home for a while... and some ppl reckon BM riders carry a lot!

Yep, nice work Pete. How did you go with the Rennesport? I've been keeping an eye out but no '77 RS barn finds yet.

Jeff, been wondering when you would put some pics up. It's never too late. I've been thinkin' bout the Alpine Rally, only managed to wash the bike so far,.. oh,. and I discovered I had a vacuum inlet screw missing the whole time, explains some of the rough idle.

It crossed my mind to ride up the scaffold, but it also crossed my mind to go and have another beer......
The asbestos roof was being replaced. $80,000 worth.

I reckon there's more than just a hint of wild west architecture here.

Sorry that I wasn't there to pick up all new lies. I have some good friends and they deserve new material. I just know that you guys are really good with tales.

Bullshit Duane. We call it bullshit. We're good at it and that's no bullshit.

I spose you could call it a better offer!
I'd been looking forward to the Captain's Flat Ride for months, but when the idea of accompanying my 91 y/o father to Darwin and then back to Adelaide on the legendary 1850mile long Ghan Train journey, I jumped at the chance.
Dad has been banging on about going on a decent train journey ever since he went blind about 5 years ago.. I think he regarded it as the ultimate proof that he wasn;t going to be limitted by his disability.
The trip was organised by the train company as an Anzac Commemorative Journey, stopping at a few destinations along the track that were significant in WW2 and the defence of northern Australia.
It also coincided with the 70th anniversary of the japanese bombing of darwin in february 1942 just after Pearl Harbour and with the result that some 260 people were killed with another 60 odd raids on darwin and the Top end over the next 2 years. This is a part of Australian historty that has not been widely taught.
Anyhow, we had a ball... by far, the longest period that I have spent one to one with my dad .. and he really enjoyed being able to do things without mum fussing over him.. ( well intentioned though this is!)
I'm disappointed that I missed this ride, but this was really the trip of a lifetime.... and dad's already planning our next one!

No explanations required Doug when it comes to family.
Glad you two had a great time. I'd also like to go on an extended rail trip.

Bring your dad to the Alpine Rally!

Thanks Jeff. Great pics.
That's a grand hotel, but my taste and budget swerves mightily towards that magnificent hut. I'd love to spend a month or two there.

Doug, the Ghan trip sounds like a cracker. I trust you and your dad behaved yourselves.
