Ken, Monte and I will be coming up from the south on 259. Where is the nearest gas to your place on that road? We'll probably be arriving mid afternoon tomorrow. No doubt Mongo will want to quench his thirst upon arrival. ":>)

More on the Cabin

I have canceled my reservation at the super cool looking cabins at the RV park next to Ken's, which presents a golden opportunity for one or more of you lucky campers. The cancelation fee is one night's stay, which the guy will wave if someone on a motorcycle stays there. Soooooo if you want a nice place to stay with indoor plumbing and all, I will split the first nights rent ($75) with you.

Just picture a bed with sheets! Hot shower. Heck, if six of you go in together, it's cheaper than the shower house. It is Oklahoma, which is right next to Arkansas, so you could probably all stay there.

Sure wish I was going.

You will be coming through Broken Bow then. My place is about 60 miles from Broken Bow. There are, of course, lots of gas stations there. For about the next 5 miles there are a handful of gas stations along 259. Beyond that there is one shell station, on the right, about 15 or so miles from the junction where you are going to turn. In any event a full tank i Broken Bow will allow you to get to mey place and then on to Mena (30 miles), or Heavener (24 miles) or Talihena, OK (about 30 miles to the West). So you can tour your way to gas easily.

You may catch me not at home tomorrow, which is OK. I just got back from a shopping trip to Ft Smith and I will have to go again tomorrow to buy the perishibles. I will have beer and sodas iced in some coolers. I'll have lawn chairs for you to sit on. And if you're pitching a tent, pick a spot you like.

Traveling to my place, as you know, you will turn left (east) at the junction onto State Hwy 63. At about 0.4 miles you will see the Big Cedar RV park on the left. Going on about 0.2 miles you will see a dirt lane heading to the left. There is a sign marking the road, River Lane. Where the dirt lane intersects highway 63 you will also see a couple home made BMW roundels letting you know you're at the right place. About 0.2 miles down the dirt lane you will see another BMW roundel on the left and a sign saying Ken's Place. That's the entrance to my place, through two rusty gates. Make yourself at home. The Shop and Garage (AKA Rally Central) will be open if you want to look around.

I'll be back from Ft Smith as soon as I can make it. You can call me on my cell phone if you want. That number is 208 559 0187.

See you soon.

You've already read it in the post above, but I'm going to have to make a shopping trip to Ft. Smith tomorrow. So please make yourselves at home till I get back.

I sure miss Joan. She essentially did the rally work while I amused the guests.

Thanks for the quick reply Ken. Not to worry about entertaining early arrivals. Monte is quite entertaining in his own right, and that's without having consumed the first training beer!

I ran a tiny one in '11 at the Rich Mntn Store. Just got word of this one today, went to NC to 'tame' the Dragon Tail at Deals Gap. 1400 round trip, got home at noon today, the 15th. Problem is an 'S' fairing and a blown fuse n the headlight shell has kiboshe my turn signal, horn, speedo light, ect.

Not sure if I can get the bezel off w/o taikng the fairing off? I'm only about 29 miles from Ken's.

Dan hosted a Boxerworks Forum Rally a couple years ago when Ken was ill in Idaho and couldn't make it back in time for the rally. "Tiny" is right, so I heard. The past couple/three years of forum rallies...I've called them the recession rallies due to dwendling head-count. With around 25 on the roster/map, it looks like the recession is over!

Dan, you BE SURE to come by Ken's anytime. Would like to meet you.

P.S....maybe Ken can help you with your fuse issue.

It's around 10:30p.m. here in the Austin, Tx area and have finally got old Eddie packed, stuffed, and loaded. Hope to get on the road by 7a.m. tomorrow. Will rendezvous with Doug and Michelle near Dallas and ride to Ken's together. Should pull in there around five or so. Can't wait to rally!

It would be good to get a chance to meet you Dan, being next door neighbors (almost) and all.

On my '77 S bike the chrome headlight ring can be popped off, meaning it doesn't have that screw tightening it in place. It's a bit of a pain in the ass trying to pop it on and off with the S fairing in the road though. And, as you know, it's not such a hard job taking the S fairing on and off. A pain, but doable, at least doable if in a stock configuration. I'm not at all sure that as S bikes had that spring retained bezel though.

With all the advice around I don't see how we could fail. And if all else fails, we could even ask Duane. Hopefully it won't come to that. ;)
