I can confirm reports of the pie quality at the Mitta store but you will be missing out horribly if you don't try a sausage roll as well. I have been known, on more than one occasion, to make the 200 km round trip just to have one. I believe it is physically impossible to eat one of each in a single sitting (such is the generosity of their proportions) but I can only advise that you give it your best shot. Should you fail you'll find that the sausage rolls travel better in a pannier than the pies do.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks Ray. I haven't tried the sausage rolls yet, but will grab one on your recommendation. I have managed a few times to get through an entire pie at one sitting but it's not easy, so I won't be taking up your implied challenge.

The very nice woman who makes the pies is also a motorcyclist. She doesn't get much time to ride because her pies are in such high demand from the motorcycling community. It is common to see happy old bastards patting their beerguts and sucking on their beards before swinging a leg over a bike at Mitta Mitta.

I'll try to be there.
A late lunch perhaps, and I think the Mals will be there later than us, Bob. They are converging from Cootamundra and Canberra.

I will try to be on the road at a reasonably early hour, like 10:30 or so. Those last minute packing moments usually get a bit drawn out.

Today I installed a Dyna III electronic ignition. Feels great on a first test ride and it has solved my timing synchronisation issues. Just gotta hope it will be reliable.

Day 1
I got underway this morning, Batemans Bay to Canberra, started off at 07:00 hrs, all clear, sunny, beaut morning. Half way up the Clyde mountain I was hit by a 40 knot blast from the SW. Coming into Braidwood the road was covered in poplar branches & leaves, i was dreading the clear plains stretching toward Canberra. However the rest of the trip turned out pretty cruisey the wind dropped back of good deal, & made for a good journey.
Hooroo see you all tomorrow
Cheers malcom

Gidday Fella,

Good to hear and safe travels everyone

My bike is ready and now pointing down the driveway in an Easterly direction, so looking forward to a few hours ride and then some relaxed conversation, SteveD and myself should leave Trafalgar at 11am for a conservative 5pm landing Saturday afternoon..

Ohh Mal, I hope that's not a case of "famous last words"!

Today I'm gunna do all oils. Yesterday I bought 15litres of SG rated Valvoline 20W50 @ $2.40 a litre. I have some dino Penrite 80W90 which was $29 for 5 litres.

Tomorrow at Grants we'll drop the new trans oil and add some magic powder Grant has. Grant finds the stuff he's uses improves the gearchange, so I'll be able to do a good back to back test.

Firstly, I need to mow the grass, dig up some rampant dietes & agapanthus plants and deliver them to the local school gardener, then go for a ride and buy some crush washers. Oil change then pack and load ready for 0830 departure. 80 minutes/120 kms to Grants, then to Anglers Rest which is another 300kms, about 4 hours. Maybe more if we stop for a lunch and/or photos.

Tonight I'm heading to a local winery for a free top class feed on behalf of the school. As I'm the designated driver, I won't be drinking anymore than 3 glasses. That reminds me, best fumigate the car before we collect the passengers too!

Gas is cheap today @ oz$1.29 a litre for 98ron.

You know they're triffids! They'll kill if given half a chance! They've already killed one pitch fork and a shovel.

Petrol went up 20c a litre! :x :x :x

Just back from dropping in on the happy campers at the Blue Duck. Everyone seems pleased as can be. The weather is fabulous, they scared off any other campers, the river looks great and the roads are in excellent condition. And the bikes all went well. Bumped into Steve and Grant at the Omeo pie shop (good pies). Steve had a broken pannier rack but they were well on their way to McGyvering up a repair.

The loop Beechworth/Mitta Mitta/Omeo/Mt Hotham (and variations) has gotta be one of Oz's great day's out. About 400 km of fab roads and little traffic. The boy-racers on their go-faster-dick-compensators will fairly soon ruin it for all of us but in the meantime it's superb.
