R100s 1978 - Oil light only goes off at high revs
Re: R100s 1978 - Oil light only goes off at high revs
The oil light should go off just cranking the motor. No need to start it, let alone rev it.
Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

True enough but it can take quite a long time for the lamp to go out, expecially if the oil system is drained. Running it on idle for a few seconds is safe enough and will shorten that time to a few seconds.

Thanks for all the replies to this thread even though the series of events that led me to the issues seemed to have got blurred along the way. I have only today managed to find time to work on the bike.
The suspect was a sensor, so a success and not an expensive one.
Thanks, Daniel.

Good news. Glad it was something simple...

Good! Glad it was the sensor. I had two of these go out. Once on my R90s and recently on my R1150RT and both times, the light would not come on with ignition. So in those cases, the switch stayed open with pressure.
