Interesting, but why would anyone want to suffer with such poor rides? Does one get brownie points for voluntary poverty? I live well below my means, but I haven't really suffered as such. Of course, some of my friends think that I suffer.

Now to take my meds and off to bed I go.

it ain't a poverty issue. but that brings up a good point. Many people don't own big touring bikes, they also think(usually get told) that you can't enjoy a trip on anything less than a liter + bagger with a barn door for a windshield. suggest to many riders they take a long trip on a regular bike & they will use up ALL of their feminine napkins in a hurry. I want to hit the road on a big roadtrip & remind people that all you need is ANY motorcycle and you too can experience life on the open road.

My reasoning for wanting to take my old Honda CT-90 on the Natchez Trace is the Trace is a 50mph road. On a big bike I want to impale myself on something sharp and rusty on a a road so flat, and straight, and speed enforced.
Swap out a big twin for a tiny single & suddenly its an adventure!!! My tiny motorcycle suddenly makes sense.
Tell people you went on a 1000 mile trip on yer big touring bike & guys like me will smile, get to yawning & tune out your ho-hum story. Tell me you did it on a moped? ....I'll buy the beers while you talk.

When I was a young bloke I rode my Suzuki 70cc step thru 1200 miles ,from Brisbane, Queensland down south to Hobart .It took 3.1/2 very long days .It never missed a beat but it was a looooong uncomfortable ride .The reason ? It's what I owned and I was too broke to buy anything else .

How'd it do in the water to get to Taz?

It was very small and light !

My friend made this cross Canada tour on a 1971 R50/5 a few years ago....he's a great photogrpher aas well as a good story teller.

He bought this bike, off the internet, sight unseen, 2-3 days before the trip. We went to a local BMW rally where he tuned it up, changed fluids, replaced all cables etc literally prepped the bike for the trip with the bike tool kit under the moonlight one night...and then said au revoir...
