If the small end
did come to a point, you could make your own main jets

Better done with an ice pick.

BTW, non of what I did with the carburetor helped with it not idling properly. It needs some replacement parts.

I was wondering if all those good intentions and carefull re-engeneering would help, too bad.
The idle circut with it's two tiny holes on each side of the closed butterfly are there for a reason, and need just the right amount of air movement across them to idle, and then to transition to midrange correctly. A bit of air getting past the butterfly some where else just doesn't work.
I am allways amazed at how carbs where ever designed in the first place, especially before computor modeling. I could never do it, heck I barely even know how they work.
Good post Frog!

Frog, I am surprised, because you reduced the amount of light that we could see around the butterfly by quite a bit.
I want to follow this one all the way through.
My work will be taking me back into your neighborhood soon.

The owner of the bike has it back. He was very pleased with the bike and sent me lots of praise for the attention to detail. The only issue remaining is this idle problem and he did ask me if I would schedule time to address it. It was not really part of this round of work, but worth trying to fix.
I will schedule it and report back when I am working on it. It will be a few months at least.

Leave the flat hammer in the drawer and all will be well
