Clearly some excess heat at play.
I think that as strands of earth wires have deteriorated, the heat has increased until the wire has become a fuse and blown.
That's what I reckon anyway. The other option is things got hot in a hurry for some reason and it burnt out.
I like my first idea mo'

I was able to buy terminals which are identical to the original ones in the headlight plug, as well as a new empty plug to take the terminals.
Replaced the earth wire with a slightly heavier one but unfortunately couldn't get it into the covering tube so it got taped on. Oh well.

All working again. Thanks for your help gents!

I wonder why the headlight power wires come from the terminal board in the bucket and not directly from the relay?
Oe relay by the way.

Very tidy Jeff. And a good price I bet. Image
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.

The old broken coil mount thing.
I fixed the left side recently but the right was in worse shape having been brazed some years ago, so I decided to make a new 'section' with nuts welded to it.

Image

First thing was to remove all traces of bronze 'cause it doesn't weld too well, and prepare for the new section.

New section welded in with arc. Ain't got no tig, or oxy-acetylene, or mig. Well I should say I don't have gas bottles any more.
$500 a year rental on three bottles? I think not.

Bit of black paint.........bewdiful.
