It does look just a bit like it should say "John Player Special" across the side of the tank.

Very nice, Chuey.

Beautiful bike Chuey. I have always liked black with gold stripes. Very "JPS".

Thanks to Rob Frankham for the trouble shooting procedure. I'll post here what I find. Boy, I hope the neutral switch doesn't need replacing. That looks like a tough job!

Yes, all the wires are hooked up.

As far as JPS goes, I really like those bikes. It wasn't in my mind when I chose the colors. In fact, it wasn't supposed to be black. Due to some miscommunication between the painter and me, I had him repaint it black as a default color. I have some gold snowflakes that I put onto the RS but intended to transfer over to the black and gold bike. Thing is, a local friend, when he saw my gold wheels had his powdercoated gold and put them on his black "S" bike. Now I'm going to look like a copy cat if I put the gold wheels on mine. Ironic. Two color combos that always have appealed to me are black/gold and black/red. I really like the flying blood clot color that BMW did. Also, my absolute favorite is Daytona Orange.

Actually not such a tough job if you follow this procedure. Support the rear of the engine with a jack. Remove the rear motor mount stud. Tap out the aluminum spacer tube (if you have a /5 you'll be scratching your head here). You now have enough clearance to get to the switch. Be careful not to deform or crack the switch on removal and installation, it's made of soft aluminum. Chill the spacer before you tap it back in. No problem.

Drain the lube from the trans before removing the switch and save a big mess.

Wow! Thanks for the tips. I have to replace the trans/drive shaft boot anyway. Maybe I'll make a party of it.

Have a good look at the band clamps on the driveshaft boot. They are slender and easily mangled.
