Regarding the issue of consumer spending being needed for an economic recovery, that just doesn't sound like a sound economy to me. It seems that people should have some dough set aside and not be in debt. That means, no credit card debt. I mean, come on. That's false. It is living beyond ones means. It's not going to work in the long run.
The nation itself needs to pare down and get smart in the same way. We've got to quit spending money to have wars. Something rings false when I'm told that wars make our economy strong in spite of the spending. What I've seen is that it makes some already rich people filthy richer but I'm sure it would make more sense to tend our home fires rather than trying to rule the world.

Chuey,
America doesn't want to rule the world. They want everyone to be a democracy, just like them.

Democracy, Right .
Worked about as well as Communism.
Two very undefinable ideas, that cannot work because humans are part of the equation.
Fun to watch though.

Well, we have a market driven economy, so without consumer spending, the economy grounds to a halt. That being said, people should not over extend themselves with debt. This, IMO, is part of what we are going through now. A portion of society tends to over extend themselves, and then they need to pay down their debt before starting the whole cycle again. It’s fucked, but that’s what some people do. However, that’s different from needing consumer spending to strengthen the economy.

Yes we should tend to things at home more.

Kind of hard to tell people to live within their means when the government is spending money like a drunken sailor, borrowing ever more to finance it's insanity. Government spending is totally out of control, what the hell are our "leaders" thinking? Oh yeah, get re-elected, that's all they care about. Fiscal responsibility is boring, let's start another war to distract attention while nobody's looking.

Is that this administration, or a previous one?

So Jeff, the thing that I find funny in what you wrote is that it is "part" of what we are going through now. I see it as basically the main deal.
And how is it different than needing consumer spending to strengthen the economy?
The way I see it, people need stuff. They only need so much stuff. We have TV and other advertising methods to convince people that they need more stuff than they need. I mean, come on! If we need stuff, fine. If we need to go into debt to get stuff that TV tells us we need is that really a healthy economy? I say it is consumerism. That is not the same thing as a healthy economy.
In my view, there is only one thing you should go into debt to buy. That is a house. I'm a tough love guy when it comes to economy.
That's right. I wish everybody would save up their money before buying bicycles.

I had a big order in to Chicago BMW when I heard they were closing. I called and I was told that every effort would be made to get me my parts by this coming Friday. My parts arrived today, three days ahead of that estimate.
It would have been easy for the people at Chicago BMW to have simply canceled all outstanding orders and not alert their customers. Instead, the employees of Chicago BMW stayed late through the last several weeks to ensure that their customers were well served. Where ever the Chicago BMW staff goes, the people who are their customers will be fortunate as these folks care about people.
I'd like to wish all the best to the Chicago BMW staff and express my thanks to them for great service in the past as well as their recent above-and-beyond efforts these last few weeks.

A new member on the R65 forum just posted this today:
It's good news for those of us on the SouthWest side of Chicago. Mike Abt and Peter Jacob have both gone to the new BMW Motorcycles of Countryside.
